Facing the initial bowling assault of Netravalkar’s American side, a troublesome first hour ended with Reece Hendricks dismissed for 11. 

However, the initiative was taken quickly when Quinton de Kock and the captain, Aiden Markram stepped up. Their solid 110-run partnership.

As the T20 World Cup 2024 progresses, cricket fans of the world have been provided with more exciting cricket, and South Africa’s match against the USA in the opening match of the Super-8 stage was a classic. 

Played on the Sir Vivian Richards of Antigua, the game was one-sided as South Africa displayed a splendid show of both batting and bowling power.

South Africa, batting first, received the first blow at 62 when their opener Reece Hendricks was cleaned by Saurabh Netravalkar – an American fast bowler. 

But in the match, Quinton de Kock and later on skipper Aiden Markram took the situation into their own hands. 

Both openers put in good 110 runs stand for second wicket which was strong. Looks like de Kock’s 74 off 40 balls, including 7 fours and 5 sixes will be remembered as the best highlight today. 

They did have a moment of weakness where two wickets fell in two balls, including the dangerous David Miller without scoring.

SA vs USA: South Africa Piles Up 194 Runs

Aiden Markram further added 46 runs off 32 balls, with the help of four fours and a six. Heinrich Klaasen came out to bat at No. 5 and was the highest run-getter for his side with an unbeaten 36 off 22 balls including three fours and as many sixes helped South Africa post a formidable total of 194 for four wickets in the allotted 20 overs. 

For the USA, Saurabh Netravalkar and Harmeet Singh produced a two-wicket haul.

Kagiso Rabada’s Spell Seals the Victory

The USA were always out of their comfort zone as they chased 195 against the Proteas’ bowling prowess. 

However, the team could not capitalize on the good start and by the time they had scored 76 runs they had lost five key wickets.

Opener, Andris Gaus and middle-order batsman, Harmeet Singh put up some sort of a show.

Harmeet scored 38 runs on 22 balls and Gaus also played with an unbeaten 80 runs of 47 balls including 5 fours and 5 sixes which made this match more interesting.

However, requiring 26 runs off the last over the USA only managed to get 7 with Rabada’s exceptional bowling and thus SA won the match by 18 runs.

Bowling the last four overs, Rabada took three wickets proving himself in the death overs.

SA vs USA: Comprehensive Win for South Africa

This meant that the USA would post a score of 176 for six in their twenty overs. But the best attempt put forth by Gaus was still short of the total put up by South Africa. 

In return, Rabada was important for South Africa, as his 3 wickets impacted the team positively during the defence.
