He later returned to the Slovenian league, after his move from Atalanta was a mutual one and joining Maribor in October 2022. 

Ilicic did not fail to showcase his quality and class as he bagged eight goals and made 11 assists for his team in 31 league games in the last season. 

His achievements in national team B helped him secure a place in the preliminary squad of the Slovenia senior team, which he did not disgrace after scoring the only goal in the qualification match, 2-1 against Armenia.
